Bobcats take on TCC champ Madison in ‘C’ District semifinal tonight

Whiteford’s varsity volleyball team will take on the No. 5 ranked team in Class C in tonight’s District semifinal at Erie Mason.

The Bobcats are 13-16-1 overall. It’s opponent, Tri-County Conference champion Madison, comes into the match 45-8-2, and ranked No. 5 in the latest Michigan Interscholastic Volleyball Coaches Association poll. The Trojans have won back-to-back TCC titles and advanced to the state semifinals last year.

The Bobcats-Trojans match is at 5:30 p.m. The winner will take on the winner of the Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central vs. Summerfield match, which is at 7 p.m.

The Bobcats put together a pair of three-game win streaks this season and after going 0-4 in the Lenawee Christian Tournament, they beat Erie Mason in the final regular season match.

“We are settling in to a new lineup without starting outside hitter, Raegan Tansel,” said Whiteford volleyball coach Buffy Ruddy. “The girls have been working hard these past few weeks, both physically and mentally to prepare for our post season run.”

Tansel, one of just three seniors on the team, tore her ACL and is out for the remainder of the season. The other seniors are Breanna Frederick and Lauren Walker.
