Whiteford Softball team advances to Regional with district sweep

MORENCI — Whiteford’s softball team clinched its 25th all-time district title Saturday, shutting out Summerfield 16-0 and Morenci 10-0.

Unity Nelson pitched a five-inning no-hitter against Summerfield, striking out 11. Nelson also had three hits. Aly VanBrandt went 3-for-3 while Patrina Marsh and Karlei Conard each had two hits. Conard had a double and home run.

In the finals, Berlynn Keller allowed just one hit and struck out 10 and picked up her 17th win of the season. Kaydence Sheldon had a single and a double while Nelson and Marsh each had two RBIs.

The Bobcats will play in the Division 4 regional at Dansville Saturday. Addison plays Reading in the other regional semifinal.

Whiteford is 35-4 on the season, the most single season wins in school history.
