Masters breaks school record, course record in cross country opener

ADDISON – Jay Yockey knew Keegan Masters could do it.

The Whiteford cross country coach just didn’t expect it so soon.

Masters opened the season by setting school and course records with a time of 16:48.7 at the Addison Invitational Friday.

He easily eclipsed the previous school record of 17:14 set by Jake Berry.

“I was kind of expecting it at some point, to be sub-17 and break the school record by almost 30 seconds and the course record by 8 seconds is an indicator of what’s to come this season,” Yockey said.

Whiteford finished third in the team standings as Elliott Rodgers placed third, Zach Kahn 12th, Brendon Masters 28th and Dylan Anderson 38th.

Whiteford fielded a full girls team for the first time in eight years and had Annie Gapp and Emily Rasor take 20th and 21st, respectively.
