The No. 1 ranked Whiteford Bobcats will travel to Kalamazoo tonight to take on the Loy Norrix Knights.
It’s the largest school Whiteford has ever played on the football field. Loy Norrix is a Division 1 school with an enrollment of 1,743. The Bobcats beat Loy Norrix last season, 76-40, when the Knights had an enrollment of 1,722.
The Bobcats come into the game 6-0 and ranked No. 1 in Division 8 in multiple polls, rankings and lists. The offense is among the 10 best in state in terms of points and already ranks as the 13th-highest scoring team in school history (through six games).
Record-setting quarterback Shea Ruddy has passed for 627 yards and nine touchdowns an rushed for another 299 yards. He is closing in on a couple more Bobcat records, including passing completions career (he is three shy of tying the mark of 213) and total offense for a career (he is 105 yards shy of breaking the record).
Jake Iott has scored 10 touchdowns on the season and ranks second on the team in rushing with 536 yards. Hunter DeBarr leads the team in rushing with 539 yards. Iott is also the team leader in tackles with 81. Ryin Ruddy, who has four touchdown receptions, is tied for the Monroe County Region lead with three interceptions.
Loy Norrix last had a winning season in 1998 when they had future Michigan State and NFL running back T.J. Duckett. The Knights picked up a win in Week 2, beating Kalamazoo Central. Loy Norrix has scored only 81 points this season, but a stout defense has kept the Knights close in multiple games.
Linebacker Tyson Calicutt is having an outstanding season and Zarquease Arnold is the Knights best player in the trenches. Cedric Huntley is the team’s game-breaker on offense.
