OTTAWA LAKE — Every time he throws a pass, Whiteford’s Shea Ruddy breaks a record.
Friday, Ruddy broke a record that was shared by five Bobcat quarterbacks from five different decades when he threw five touchdown passes in Whiteford’s 66-7 win over Kalamazoo Loy Norrix.
The Bobcat single-game record for TD passes in a game was previously shared by Steve Fowler, Dean Lennard, Jason Pant, Travis Pant and Thomas Eitniear. Three of Ruddy’s five TD passes in the first half against Loy Norrix went to his brother, Ryin.
| No. | Touchdowns passes game |
| 5 | Shea Ruddy (10-7-22) |
| 4 | Steve Fowler (9-13-74) |
| 4 | Dean Lennard (10-16-81) |
| 4 | Jason Pant (9-13-91) |
| 4 | Travis Pant (9-11-09) |
| 4 | Thomas Eitniear (11-14-15) |
Interestingly, the five players that shared the single game record were from the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s and 2010s. Ruddy’s historic night came in the 2020s.
“I’ve looked at the records a lot and as soon as I hit three in the first half, I thought of the record and I knew I could break it,” Ruddy said.
Over the last two games, Ruddy has completed 16 of 23 passes for 340 yards and seven touchdowns. He has 14 TD passes on the season.
“We realize that if we incorporate passing more, it will be better for our offense,” he said. “We’ve been doing a lot of work on it in practice these last few weeks and its paying off.”
Whiteford played a non-league game Friday, but still clinched no worse than a share of the TCC title when Erie Mason lost to Madison. Whiteford hosts Erie Mason this week (Friday at 7 pm) with a chance to secure its second straight outright league title.
