Whiteford will add nine athletes and two coaches to its Hall of Fame Friday night.
A ceremony is planned in between the JV and varsity boys basketball game against Summerfield.
The coaches are Todd Thieken and Bob Ondrovick.
In his first year as head football coach at Whiteford, Coach Thieken led the Bobcats to the Division 8 state football championship and was named Coach of the Year by the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association. He’s the first coach in Monroe County Region history to win his first 14 games of his career.
‘Coach Ondo’ has coached at Whiteford 11 seasons, helping the Bobcats win two state football championships during that time. He was recently inducted into the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
The nine athletes joining the Hall of Fame are:
Ryan Oberle, Ty Ruddy and Dylan Anderson teamed with junior Jake Iott to earn all-state honors in the 400 Relay at the 2022 state track meet. Iott will be inducted in the spring of his senior year.
Whiteford senior Madelyn Thomas was a member of the third place 400 Relay team at the 2021 state track meet. Her sister, Paige Thomas was on that relay and was inducted in 2022. The two others on the relay – Aubrie Simmons and Annie Gapp – will be inducted their senior years.
Shane Suchora and Seamus Waterford are being inducted after earning First Team All-State awards from the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association this past season.
Brayden Luse was chosen First Team All-State by the Associated Press, Detroit News and Detroit Free Press after the 2022 season.
The final football inductee this year is two-time All-State recipient Shea Ruddy. Not only was Ruddy all-state in both 2021 and 2022, this past season he was named Associated Press Division 7/8 Player of the Year.
Also being inducted is Aly VanBrandt, the Bobcat softball player who has signed to play at Indiana University next season. Aly has set several Whiteford softball records over the past two seasons and was named First Team All-State and 2021 and 2022 by the Michigan High School Softball Coaches Association.
Eight other current Whiteford athletes have already met the criteria to join the Whiteford Athletic Hall of Fame next year – including Iott, Gapp, Simmons, Unity Nelson (softball), Logan Tammerine (baseball), Hunter DeBarr (football), Ryin Ruddy (football) and Keagan Masters (cross country).
