Bobcats come back to beat Tecumseh in eighth; Win nightcap

OTTAWA LAKE – Whiteford came back in dramatic fashion Monday to beat Tecumseh 3-2.

The Bobcats trailed 2-0 in the fifth inning when Aly VanBrandt singled and scored on a triple by Patrina Marsh. Unity Nelson singled to bring home Marsh to tie the game.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, Karlei Conard drove Bailey Spradling with a sacrifice bunt to give the Bobcats the win.

Nelson went all eight innings, giving up just two hits and striking out 13. Both Tecumseh runs were unearned.

In the second game, Tecumseh scored one in the top of the first, but the Bobcats scored the next 12 runs to win 12-1.

Conard earned the win, throwing five innings and giving up three hits. She had two hits at the plate.

Shay Alexander, Marsh, and VanBrandt led all hitters on the day.

Whiteford is 6-0 and faces undefeated Ohio division 1 runner up Springfield Saturday along with Ohio division 1 perennial powerhouse Lancaster.

“We can’t wait to compete this Saturday, and plan on learning and growing as a team,” Whiteford coach Matt VanBrandt said. “The opponents will surely challenge us physically and mentally.”
