Whiteford boys qualify for MITCA, win own Relays

OTTAWA LAKE – Whiteford lived up to its ranking.

The Bobcats boys team found out this week that it is one of the first teams in the state to qualify for the Michigan Interscholastic Track and Field Coaches Association State Meet.

They showed why Saturday by winning their own Bobcat Legacy Relays.

“The boys came out today to compete,” Whiteford coach Jay Yockey said. “That has added fuel to the fire of wanting to compete, win, and break some records. I’m really proud of all their efforts and what I saw on the track.”

The Bobcats won the sprint medley (Stepan Masserant, Kolby Masserant, Shea Ruddy, Jake Iott), 1,600 (Shea Ruddy, Dylan Anderson, Ryin Ruddy, Iott) and high jump (Kolby Masserant, Mason DeBarr, Shea Ruddy) relays.

They were second in the 3,200, distance medley and 1,200 and third in the throws, 400, freshman-sophomore and pole vault.

Whiteford’s girls were second to Morenci after winning the throwers (Kenzie Gray, Haley Luse, Nina Bauman, Mallory Bahls), high jump (Alena Ellis, Nina Bauman, and Adriana Indoval) and shot-put (Gray, Bahls, Luse) relays.

The Bobcats were second in the pole vault and third in the discus.
