PETERSBURG – Whiteford’s track and field season hit another highlight Tuesday when the Bobcats swept Erie Mason and Summerfield in boys and girls track to open the TCC season.
The boys beat Summerfield 106-31 and Erie Mason 74.5 to 62.5 while the girls beat Summerfield 104-29 and Erie Mason 70.5 to 66.5.
“I knew going in this would be a tough match up for both the boys and girls,” Whiteford coach Jay Yockey said. “We knew we needed to bring our ‘A’ game tonight and we scratched out every point we possibly could. We could go against Erie Mason every week and you could get a different outcome every time.”
Elliott Rodgers had a key performance in the 3200, finishing second.
“We needed him to get second … to help seal the deal,” Yockey said. “ He not only did that but dropped a massive PR as well.”
Keegan Masters won the 1600 and 3200. Shea Ruddy was first in the 100 (11.55) and high jump (5-10).
Kolby Masserant was first in the 200 and long jump. Cooper Bieber was second in the 200 in another key performance.
Whiteford won three out of four relays.
In the girls meet, the Bobcats got some great performances from Mackenzie Ulery, Madelyn Thomas, Ali Bauman, Annie Gapp and Kenzie Gray.
Ulery was first in the 100 (13.59) and 200 (28.34) while Gapp was first in the 300 hurdles (52.3). Gray won both the shot put (30-1) and discus (89-10). Jessica Ulery was the high jump winner.
The Bobcats also took first in the 4×100 and 4×200 relays.
“The way our team is supporting each other is great, which adds to our success,” Yockey said.
The Bobcats boys are 5-0 overall while the girls are 4-1.
Whiteford will compete in the Whitmore Lake Invitational Saturday.
