Whiteford splits baseball doubleheader with Milan

A single in the bottom of the eighth inning by Brendon Masters lifted Whiteford to a 4-3 victory over Milan Friday in the first game of a non-league doubleheader.

The Bobcats trailed 3-2 going into the eighth inning. Nate Stevens singled to start the inning and Zayne Emch followed with a single of his own. Mason VanBrandt pushed the runners up with a bunt, then Luke Vida scored Stevens on a sacrifice fly. Masters ended the game with a single to right.

Masters, batting leadoff, had three singles while Emch, Luke Rasor and Logan Tammerine had two each.

Masters went seven innings on the hill. Luke Rasor got the victory, getting the final two outs in the eighth.

Milan won Game 2, 8-5, scoring six times in the second inning.

Stevens and Tammerine had two hits apiece.

The Bobcats are 9-6 overall.
