Relay wins state title; Bobcats place fifth in boys state meet

KENT CITY — Whiteford’s boys track and field team picked up its first state champion since 2008 and finished fifth in the Division 3 state meet Saturday.

The Bobcats 4×400 Relay unit of Shea Ruddy, Dylan Anderson, Ryin Ruddy and Jake Iott won the state championship with a time of 3:27.28. It’s the first state title in a track and field event for Whiteford since 2008.

The state champion relay led a tremendous day for Whiteford.

Shea Ruddy was second in the 400 with a PR of 50.18. Iott placed eighth (51.78).

Keegan Masters placed sixth in the 1600 (4:25.54) and 10th in the 3200 (10:10.42). Elliott Rodgers was 12th in the 3200 (10:24.44).

Ryin Ruddy came in eighth in the 300 Hurdles in 41.59.

The 4×100 Relay of Stepan Masserant, Kolby Masserant, Ryin Ruddy and Shea Ruddy was fifth. The 4×200 Relay of Cooper Bieber, Dylan Anderson, Ryin Ruddy and Iott was eighth (1:32.50).

The Bobcat boys placed fifth with 28 points. Benzie Central was first with 51.

Stepan Masserant went 12-9 in the Pole Vault to finish 13th. Kolby Masserant was 17th in the long jump at 19-5.25.

For the Bobcat girls, Annabelle Gapp was 18th in the 300 Hurdles. Mackenzie Ulery didn’t reach the finals in the 100 but did run a PR of 12.94 in the preliminaries.
