No. 1 Bobcats face fifth ranked team of season in Union City

Whiteford’s football team has been tested this season and so far is getting an A.

The 7-0 Bobcats are ranked No. 1 in Division 8 according to multiple polls and state rankings. Four of Whiteford’s first seven opponents have spent at least one week in the top 10 Associated Press, Friday Night Victors or Detroit Free Press ranking this season:

  • Whiteford beat Blissfield in Week 1, 28-21. The Royals (4-3) were No. 9 in Division 7 by the Free Press after week 4.
  • The Bobcats beat Ida 22-7. Ida was ranked No. 5 in Division 6 by Friday Night Victors coming into the game.
  • Whiteford was a 26-21 winner over Ottawa Hills, who was ranked in the top five in Division IV in Ohio based on calpreps.com and was No. 12 in the Associated Press poll that week.
  • The Bobcats beat Sand Creek 48-8 in Week 5. Sand Creek was ranked No. 9 by the Free Press after Week 1.

This week, the Bobcats travel west to take on Division 7 Union City. The Chargers are currently No. 9 by Friday Night Victors, No. 10 by The Detroit Free Press and No. 12 by The Associated Press.

Whiteford will bring a 21-game winning streak to Union City, which has clinched the Big 8 conference championship. The Tri-County Conference is 6-1 so far this season against the Big 8 with the only TCC loss coming when Union City beat Summerfield.
