Whiteford football team faces Big 8 Champions on the road

UNION CITY – Whiteford is on the road for the next two weeks. A win over Union City tonight could mean the difference to playing at home or not in the playoffs.

Whiteford is 7-0 and facing 6-1 Union City, a Division 7 school.

The Bobcat have been ranked at the top of the Associated Press Division 8 poll all season.

Head coach Todd Thieken said Friday’s game against 6-1 Union City is important for playoff purposes.

“It’s the type of game where it means something, possibly meaning we get to play at home again,” Thieken said.

Union City comes into the game as the Big 8 champions, going 4-0 in league play. It’s only loss this season was to undefeated Saugatuck.

Running back Dylon MacDonald has rushed for 588 yards and eight touchdowns. Riley Laird has 474 yards rushing and Brendan Labar another 373. Quarterback Elijah Payne has completed 25-of-53 passes for 468 yards. He’s been intercepted five times.
