OTTAWA LAKE — Whiteford’s comeback attempt against Division 1 Monroe came up just short Wednesday in a non-league game as the Trojans won 38-35.
The Bobcats were behind 18-9 at halftime and 28-17 after three quarters, but came charging back with 18 points in the fourth quarter.
“We didn’t match their energy in the first half and were ice cold in the second quarter against their zone,” Whiteford coach Nick Brillhart said. “Credit to them for forcing us into jump shots.”
The second half was a different story. The Bobcats battled back and had the ball in the final seconds before missing a potential game-tying 3-pointer at the buzzer.
“It was a tough way to lose, but I was encouraged that we didn’t quit and battled until the end,” Brillhart said.
Emily Rasor led the 3-1 Bobcats with 12 points and 3 assists.
