Thieken wins Coach of the Year award from Coaches Association

LANSING — The Michigan High School Football Coaches Association held its annual clinic and awards banquet this week and Whiteford football coach Todd Thieken was one of the honorees.

Thieken, in his second year as the Bobcat head coach, was selected as one of the Division 8 Regional Coaches of the Year after Whiteford to a 13-1 season and spot in the state championship game.

Also honored was former Whiteford head coach Jason Mensing, who coached Westland John Glenn to a 7-3 record.

Mensing announced Thursday he was stepping down as head coach at John Glenn to accept a coaching job in Florida.
