CLINTON – Whiteford’s competitive cheer team keeps getting better.

The Bobcats went to the Clinton Invitational Saturday and came away with second place behind Division 3 Ida.

“We increased our score from our December meet by almost 50 points,” said Whiteford cheer coach Kim DeSilvis. “The whole team has made unbelievable progress.”

The Bobcats consist of 10 girls – five of which are freshman. They scored 650.2 points Saturday, compared to 676.18 by Ida. Clinton came in third at 626.40.

DeSilvis said one of the big areas of improvement was in the Round 3 part of the competition.

“Our stunt team is extremely talented,” she said. “We have five girls in stunt and three of them fly, sot hey are able to fly and base, which is incredible.”

Whiteford will compete at Woodhaven Saturday and at Dearborn Divine Child on Feb. 10. The state tournament begins Feb. 17 with the Division 4 districts at Hudson.

“I’m looking forward to the rest of the season and continuing to get better and better,” DeSilvis said.
