SYLVANIA – Ohio – Whiteford went on the road Wednesday and picked up a victory in the first game of the season.
The Bobcats beat Sylvania Northview 8-4 in seven innings.
“It was great to finally get out there and compete,” Whiteford coach Matt VanBrandt said. “Northview forced some mental and physical mistakes, which is exactly what we want to help us learn and grow. We were grateful to be able to play.”
The weather cooperated – barely. The game was played in a light rain, snow flurries and a moment of hail – and sunshine.
“Today was about stealing innings from Mother Nature,” VanBrandt said.
Northview has a turf field.
Whiteford will face Toledo Central Catholic at 4:30 Friday at Kris Hubbard Field.
