OTTAWA LAKE – Stepan Masserant went out in style.
In his final competition at home, the Whiteford senior pole vaulter set a school record with a leap of 13-6, shattering his previous record of 12-9 set last year.
The Bobcats swept the meets. The boys beat Morenci 127-9 and Britton Deerfield 119-17. The Whiteford girls won 82-46 over Morenci and 114-15 over BD.
In addition to Stepan Masserant’s record breaker, several Bobcats had big nights. Kolby Masserant won the 100 and long jump. Ryin Ruddy was a double winner in the hurdles. Jakub Diesing took first in the 800 and 1600. Jess Saylor won the 400, Liam Waterford the high jump and discus and Chase Lee the shot put.
The Bobcats also swept the relays. Jess Saylor, Antonio Nachtrab, Ryin Ruddy and Kolby Masserant were on the 4×100 Relay; Gasper Pirrone, Nachtrab, Brody Hillard and Waterford the 4×200; Nate Andrews, Brek Ruddy, Saylor and Ryin Ruddy on the 4×400 and Masters, Brek Ruddy, Zach Kahn and Diesing on the 4×800.
On the girls side, Braelynn Chiotti took the two distance races, Rylie DeSilvis won the 200 and long jump, Kenzi Gray took first in the shot put and discus, Nina Bauman was the high jump winner and Reagan Wing won the pole vault.
The 3200 Relay unit of Paityn Biggs, Layla Consear, Maysen Podgorski and Margo Thomas was also first.

“We saw a lot of PRs in individual events and in relays,” Whiteford coach Jay Yockey said. “I’m really proud of the effort I’m seeing and hope this propels us into the championship part of the season with regionals and state right around the corner.”
The Bobcats will compete at the Jack Beilfuss Invitational at Hillsdale Saturday.
Whiteford’s boys finished the regular season 7-1 overall and 5-1 in the TCC. The girls are 6-2 overall and 3-2 in the TCC.
The Division 3 Regional is May 18 at Madison. The TCC championships are May 21 at Erie Mason.
