CANTON – Whiteford picked up victories over Airport, Pinckney and Lakeland this weekend while losing to Clinton and tying South Lyon as part of the Michigan Challenge Tournament.
Friday: Unity Nelson tossed a one-hitter and struck out 16 in a 2-2 tie with South Lyon.
Saturday: The Bobcats beat Airport 4-0. Nelson struck out 14 in six innings. Karlie Conard and Kaydence Sheldon had two hits each.
Saturday: Clinton beat Whiteford 10-7. Shay Alexander had three hits while Nelson had two hits and three RBI.
Sunday: Whiteford beat Pinckney 6-1 and Lakeland 6-3. Nelson got the win over Pinckney with 13 strikeouts. She added three hits. In the final game, Whiteford beat Lakeland 6-1. Conard was the winner. Sheldon blasted a three-run home run.
For the weekend, Nelson batted .600, Avy Wood batted .444 and Sheldon hit .400.
Nelson was 2-0-1 with 43 strikeouts in 18 innings pitched, ERA was .389.
“We had a great week of competition, starting Tuesday night with a big win against D1 #5 Saline, and then finishing with a couple good wins Sunday in Canton.”
Senior night is Wednesday vs Sand Creek. It is also youth league night.
