No. 3 Bobcats beat Bedford 10-9, enter post-season Saturday

Whiteford, who finished No. 3 in the final Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association Division 3 poll of the season, knocked off Bedford 10-9 Wednesday and will open post-season play Saturday.

The Bobcats will take a 25-7 record into the post-season, one win shy of the school’s single season record.

Whiteford used four pitchers in the win over the Mules. Logan Tammerine hit a home run and the game ended on Tre Eitniear’s line drive single to center in the bottom of the seventh inning that scored Brendon Masters.

On Saturday, the Bobcats (25-7) will take on Erie Mason (13-16) at noon.

Blissfield (21-10) will play Madison (10-23) in the first semifinal game of the day, scheduled for a 10 a.m. start.

“I think our district might be the toughest division 3 district in the state,” Mason coach Blain Moore said. “Whiteford as the defending champ is probably the favorite, but Ida has been playing really good ball and so has Blissfield. We think we are starting to play some good.”

Blissfield has a solid 1-2 pitching punch in Ethan Stines and Jack Deatrick.

“They have both had great seasons in regard to strikeout numbers which have come up big in situations where there were runners in scoring position, and we needed a big strikeout,” Blissfield coach Eric Schmidt said.

Whiteford has a strong pitching staff of its own. Nate Stevens (9-0, 1.47 ERA), Logan Keane (5-2, 0.98 ERA), Logan Tammerine (5-0, 1.20 ERA) and Tre Eitniear (5-2, 1.17 ERA) are part of a pitching staff that has 273 strikeouts, a single season Bobcat team record.

Tammerine has 72 strikeouts in 40.2 innings pitched. He also leads the team in hitting at .410 with three home runs and 25 RBI.
