EAST LANSING – Evart pushed across a run in the bottom of the sixth inning Saturday to beat Whiteford 1-0 in the Division 3 state championship game.
Whiteford’s season comes to an end at 30-6-1 with a third straight loss in the state finals. Each of the last two were by 1-0 scores.
Evart had just one hit off Whiteford pitcher Unity Nelson, an RBI single by first baseman Mattisen Tiedt, the No. 4 hitter in the Evart lineup.
Nelson went six innings, striking out eight. The run was earned.
The Bobcats managed five hits off Evart starter Kyrah Grah – two by Kaydence Sheldon and two by Koralynn Billau. Nelson had the other.
The Bobcats left five runners on base, including two in the top of the seventh inning.
