Whiteford girls win TCC cross country jamboree

Whiteford’s girls cross country team is in position to win a Tri-County Conference championship after winning the league jamboree Tuesday.

The Bobcats placed first, topping Erie Mason by six points.

“Those close for cross country,” Bobcat coach Jay Yockey said. “The girls ran tough and we have been talking about this at practice for a week, and I’m glad to see them get out and accomplish their goals.”

Alaina McClain led the Bobcats with a fourth-place finish in 22:18.02. Five other Bobcats scored in the top 20 – Brelin Wing was eighth, Braelynn Chiotti was ninth and Briar Wing was 11th. Emily Rasor came in 20th place.

Both Erie Mason and Whiteford have won a jamboree.

The Bobcat boys placed third, behind Erie Mason and Sand Creek. Connor Mills was 13th and Cooper Diesing 16th to lead the Bobcats.

“We have some nagging injuries but are learning to race and embrace the cross country feel,” Yockey said. “Connor and Cooper are really turning into great competitors on the cross country course.”

The Bobcats are off until Oct. 5.
