Whiteford evens record at 2-2 with 6-1 victory

NEW BOSTON – Whiteford improved its record to 2-2 Wednesday with a 6-1 victory over New Boston Huron on a chilly afternoon.

Catcher Adeson Cousino was switched to leadoff batter for the Bobcats – the third different leadoff hitter in Whiteford’s four games this season – and went 2-for-3 with walk and scored twice.

Brooklyn Mills had two hits from her No. 2 spot in the order. Bailey Spradling had a key RBI single in the fifth.

Whiteford scored two in the top of the first and four in the top of the fifth to pull away.

Peyton Welch picked up the win for the Bobcats. She struck out 11 batters.

“We’ve got a lineup of scrappy hitters that simply compete every at bat,” Whiteford coach Matt VanBrandt said. “Peyton had another gritty performance tonight.  She’s learning and continues to work on her pitching arsenal.”

Whiteford hosts Milan and Plymouth Christian Saturday.
