Bobcats top BD, fall to Erie Mason in TCC track dual

ERIE – Whiteford’s boys and girls track and field teams lost to Erie Mason but beat Britton Deerfield Tuesday in the Tri-County Conference meet held in Erie.

“It was a very blustery and cold day at the track,” Whiteford coach Jay Yockey said. “We had to work through the cold and and some sickness tonight, but I told the teams it was a night to learn to race and compete and not focus solely on times and marks.

“It’s tough to compete in this weather, but it makes for mentally strong athletes. I really am proud of how well we handled ourselves tonight despite the weather and the really tough competition from Erie Mason and BD. We have a lot work to do and this meet allows us to see what we need to work on.”

In the girls meet, Alaina McClain anchored the winning 4×400 and 4×800 relay teams and won the 800.

Briar Wing won the 400, Haley Luse and Mallory Bahls went 1-2 in the shot put. Nina Bauman won the discus and Marilyn Thorn won in the long jump.

Whiteford’s boys had winners in Brek Ruddy in the pole vault, Chase Lee in the shot put, Jess Saylor in the 200 and Nate Andrews in the long jump. The Bobcats also took the 4×200 and 4×400 relays.

The Whiteford girls and boys are both 1-1 in the TCC.

The Bobcats are up next at home against Lenawee Christian and Sand Creek Tuesday.
