Whiteford softball team gets by Carlson

OTTAWA LAKE – Whiteford scored four runs in the second inning and two more in the fifth to get past Gibraltar Carlson 6-3 in a non-league game Monday.

Whiteford had six runs on six hits compared to three runs on six hits for the Marauders.

Peyton Welch went the distance in the circle for Whiteford, striking out 12. Brooklyn Mills had two RBIs and Ava Butz had an RBI double in the fifth.

Whiteford is 9-5.

“Carlson is a good team with several quality wins,” said Whiteford coach Matt VanBrandt. “Welch threw well again, and we were able to come up with some big hits at the right time.”

Whiteford hosts Erie Mason Wednesday in a battle of teams that are 4-0 in the TCC.
