Whiteford softball season comes to an end with district loss

OTTAWA LAKE – Whiteford’s softball season came to an end Saturday with a 12-0 loss to Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central in the Division 3 district semifinals.

The Bobcats season ends 27-6-1.

“SMCC has a lot of skilled and talented players that simply took care of business today,” Whiteford coach Matt VanBrandt said. “They earned it.”

SMCC scored twice in the third inning and four times in the fourth. They added five runs in the sixth.

Peyton Welch had nine strikeouts and gave up 10 hits and four walks.

Bailey Spradling, Addeson Cousino, Brooklyn Mills, Welch, and Rory Vida each collected one hit for Whiteford.

Mills, Lily Billau and Megan Butz were the lone seniors on the Bobcat team.

“We will really miss the great leadership and character from our seniors,’ VanBrandt said.
