Drew Ruddy named Scholar Athlete by Coaches Association

Whiteford senior Drew Ruddy has been chosen as one of the Michigan football coaches association Scholar Athlete award winners for 2025.

Two football players were chosen in each division. Whiteford is in Division 7. The Bobcats went 8-2 this season, winning a league championship and extending the school’s 14-year consecutive year streak of making the playoffs.

Whiteford coach Todd Thieken said that the award is based on a combination of grade point average, ACT/SAT score, performance on the field and other activities of the student athlete.

Ruddy is a three-sport athlete at Whiteford.

He was named the Special Teams Player of the Year in the Toledo Area Athletic Association and all-state by the coaches association. He led the Bobcats in receiving, was second in passing and ran for more than 600 yards. He scored 10 touchdowns. On defense, he had three interceptions. He also led the team in punt returns.
