Whiteford will take its 21-3 record to Clinton Tuesday for a 5:30 p.m. matchup against Lenawee County Athletic Association champion Onsted.
The Bobcats captured the 13th district championship in program history Friday with a victory over defending Division 3 state champion Riverview Gabriel Richard.
In Onsted, the Bobcats face a team that has won four straight league championships and features four starters that average between 9.9 and 13.1 points a game.
Senior Mason Chesser (6-4) lead the Wildcats in scoring with Cole Wells (6-2) right behind him at 12.1 points a game. Senior Rylan Henagan has made 39 3-pointers and averages 11 points a game. 6-foot-8 center Bryson Sutherland is right behind them at 9.9 points a game.
The Wildcats are coached by Britton graduate Brad Maska, who won his 300th career game earlier this season as a head coach. He played at Britton prior to the Britton and Deerfield co-op, helping the Tories win three consecutive league championships from 1998-2000. He has never faced the Bobcats as coach. In his last game as a player against Whiteford, Maska sank a half-court shot to beat the Bobcats 59-58 on Feb. 11, 2000.
Whiteford’s 21 victories are the most for the Bobcats since 2007-08 and just two wins shy of the school record, which is 23 victories in a season.
Cole Griffith leads Whiteford in scoring at 14 points a game with Caden Schroyer averaging 11.0 points a game. Schroyer had a big game in the district final with 14 points, 14 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals.
This will be just the second meeting between Whiteford and Onsted, but first since March 5, 1960 when the Wildcats beat Whiteford 74-52 in a district battle at Adrian High School. The game starts at 5:30 p.m.
In the other bracket, 18-6 Jonesville takes on 18-5 Detroit Loyola.
The Finals are 7 p.m. Thursday.
