PETERSBURG – Whiteford opened its 2017 volleyball season by making it all the way to the finals of the Summerfield Tournament Saturday before falling to the No. 9 ranked team in the state.
The Bobcats beat Britton Deerfield and split with Dundee to make it to the quarterfinals, where it beat Summerfield. The Bobcats then beat Vandercook Lake in the semifinals – the same Vandercook Lake squad that beat them in pool play – to get to the championship game.
Whiteford fell to Brighton Charyl Stockwell Academy, 25-23, 25-18, in the championship match.
The Bobcats play at Blissfield Tuesday and at Dundee Wednesday.
