OTTAWA LAKE — The Detroit Free Press and Associated Press both rate Whiteford as the No. 2 team in Division 8 entering the 2017 Michigan High School Athletic Association playoffs.
But, not everybody has the Bobcats No. 2.
Calpreps.com, a national high school football rating site, has the Bobcats No. 1 in Division 8, ahead of four-time defending state champion Muskegon Catholic Central. Calpreps, which rates teams based on several factors including wins, opponents and opponents schedules, has Whiteford with a 25.8 rating and MCC, in second, at 20.9.
Last season, Calpreps was the only site that had the Bobcats No. 2 entering the playoffs. MCC beat the Bobcats in the state championship game. In the final 2015 rankings, Calpreps.com rated Whiteford No. 3 in the state, behind MCC and Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes, the team that eliminated the Bobcats in the semifinals.
