Who will get the ball first – Whiteford or Saginaw Nouvel?

One of the reasons for Whiteford’s success this season has been because the Bobcats have been able to score on its first possession in 12 out of 13 games.

Friday morning, at 10 a.m., the Bobcats will take on Saginaw Nouvel Catholic Central in the Division 8 state championship game. The pre-game coin toss will determine who gets the ball first.

Here’s a review of the opening drive of each game this season for the Bobcats:

BLISSFIELD – Blissfield kicked off to Whiteford to start the season. Whiteford went 75 yards in five plays, ending on a 44-yard touchdown run by Zack Bertz.

COMMUNITY – Community kicked off to Whiteford. The Bobcats drove 57 yards in four plays, scoring on a 1-yard run by Logan Murphy.

SUMMERFIELD – Whiteford kicked off to Summerfield and forced a three-and-out by the Bulldogs, who punted to Whiteford. On Whiteford’s first play from scrimmage, Logan Murphy ran 73 yards for a touchdown.

WHITMORE LAKE – The Bobcats got the ball first and scored on second play from scrimmage on a 59-yard run by Logan Murphy

MADISON – The Trojans kicked off to Whiteford, who scored on the first play of the game on a 61-yard pass from Thomas Eitniear to Brayden Clark-Gilmore.

MORENCI – The Bulldogs kicked off to Whiteford, who went 73 yards in three plays, climaxed by a 15-yard run by Logan Murphy.

SAND CREEK – The Aggies kicked off to Whiteford, who fumbled on its first play from scrimmage, setting up a 10-play, 65-yard scoring drive by Sand Creek. Whiteford also turned the ball over on its second drive and didn’t pick up its first touchdown until the third drive.

CLINTON – The Redskins kicked off to Whiteford, who went on a 12-play, 60-yard drive. Logan Murphy scored for the Bobcats on a 5-yard run to finish the opening drive.

BRITTON DEERFIELD – The Patriots had the ball first but turned it over to Whiteford when Ty Eitniear intercepted a pass. Whiteford’s Thomas Eitniear capped a 6-play, 66-yard drive with a 40-yard scoring run.

LENAWEE CHRISTIAN – The Bobcats opened the playoffs with an 8-play, 70-yard scoring drive after LCS kicked off to Whiteford. Nathan Bauman’s 5-yard run finished off the opening drive for the Bobcats.

SUMMERFIELD – Whiteford kicked off to Summerfield, who went on a 12-play, 65-yard scoring drive. Whiteford’s Zack Bertz scored on a 5-yard run to cap an 11-play, 83-yard drive for the Bobcats the first time it had the ball.

EVEREST COLLEGIATE – DeShaun Williams recovered a Mountaineer fumble to top Everest Collegiate’s first drive after five plays. The Bobcats scored on a 10-play, 68-yard drive. Nathan Bauman’s 2-yard run finished it off.

MENDON – The Hornets kicked off to Whiteford, who scored on a 15-yard TD run by Logan Murphy on a 5-play, 77-yard Bobcat scoring drive.

For the season, the Bobcats have scored a touchdown on 94 of its 121 offensive drives.

Opponents, incidentally, have scored on its first drive only three times this season against Whiteford.
