Whiteford’s baseball team finished off a win over Sand Creek Tuesday in a game that was started back in April to most likely complete an undefeated season in the TCC.
The Bobcats beat the Aggies 9-0. The game was started April 18. That game was suspended with Whiteford leading 5-0 in the top of the fifth. The game finished Tuesday at Adrian College before the Aggies were scheduled to play Onsted in a non-league game.
Nolan Adams picked up the win for Whiteford, improving to 7-2 on the season.
The Bobcats are 13-0 in the TCC. A game against Madison was not played and has not been scheduled to be made up.
The win clinches the outright league title and established some records along the way. Whiteford is the first baseball team in TCC history to win four straight outright league titles. Summerfield won six consecutive league titles in the late 1970s and early 1980s but shared two of those.
In another milestone, the Bobcats are the first TCC team in league history to go undefeated in football, basketball and baseball in the same season.
Morenci (1983-84), Sand Creek (1992-93) and Clinton (2009-10) are the only other TCC teams to win football, basketball and baseball titles in the same season, but none of those teams were undefeated in all three sports.
The 1992-93 Aggies, incidentally, won football, boys basketball, baseball and boys track titles all in the same season. That was before the TCC recognized league champs in cross country or golf. Both Clinton (2012-13) and Madison (2013-14) won five league boys titles in one school year.
