OTTAWA LAKE — Game Day.
The Whiteford Bobcats open the 2018 varsity football season tonight by hosting the Blissfield Royals in a non-league game that’s been talked about for months.
“They are tough,” Whiteford coach Jason Mensing said. “It’s going to be a good game.”
The Bobcats are coming off a historic season in which they scored the second-most points in state history, punted just once and had a running clock in just about every game.
“Every season is a new team, new experiences, unique challenges,” Mensing said. “This year is no different.”
Blissfield returns sophomore starting quarterback Gavin Ganun and are considered among the Lenawee County Athletic Association favorites. Head coach Ryan Love said starting the season off playing the defending Division 8 state champions is a great measuring stick for his program.
“Whiteford has a very good, strong program,” Love said. “We’ve got to be ready right off the bat.”
The 2018 Bobcats have named seniors Hunter Lake, Ty Eitniear and Logan Murphy captains. All three are among six offensive and six defensive returning starters from last year’s 14-0 season.
Here’s more pre-game notes to get you ready for tonight’s Whiteford-Blissfield clash.
