TOLEDO — Whiteford’s boys basketball team picked up its first win of the Nick Abalos Era Saturday, beating Monclova (Ohio) Christian 72-51.
Hunter Lake poured in a career high 39 points for the Bobcats, making seven 3-pointers. Six of those makes came in Whiteford’s 28-point third quarter.
The win gave the Bobcats a third-place finish in the Warrior Classic. It was the first-ever meeting between Whiteford and Monclova Christian.
The Bobcats tied a school record by making 12 3-pointers and also tied a record by making seven triples in one quarter. Lake’s seven 3-pointers are two shy of Whiteford’s single game 3-point record set by Travis Pant, who made nine triples in a 2010 game.
Whiteford is off until January 8 when the play Morenci.
