One of the best rivalries in all of southeast Michigan will have two head-to-head matchups in the next two nights.
Whiteford will Summerfield on back-to-back nights – tonight in girls basketball and Friday night in boys basketball. Both games have significant storylines.
For Whiteford, senior Baylee Baldwin is closing in on 1,000 career points and could reach the career milestone against the Bulldogs. She enters tonight’s game with 976 career points. Last season, Baldwin scored 19 points in each of the Whiteford games vs. Summerfield.
Whiteford (4-4, 3-1 TCC) needs a win to stay within one game of undefeated Madison. Summerfield (1-7, 1-3 TCC) is coming off its first win of the season.
In the boys matchup Friday, the Bulldogs come into the game at 9-0 for the first time since 1967 – more than 50 years. The state-ranked squad is atop the TCC at 6-0. The Bobcats are 3-8, but are riding a three-game winning streak.
As a side note, Summerfield’s student section is a finalist in the Michigan High School Athletic Association’s Battle of the Fans contest.
