ADRIAN – Siena Heights University announced recently that four individuals and one team will comprise the 2020 class of the SHU Athletic Hall of Fame. The team being inducted is the 1992 Siena Heights softball team which included Whiteford graduate Dee Koppelman.
Koppelman, who graduated from Whiteford in 1991, was a member of the 1992 Siena Heights softball team that finished with a 34-9 record, the best winning percentage in program history. The Saints finished runners-up in the NAIA District 23 Tournament under head coach Al Sandifer.
It will be the third time Koppelman has made the Siena Heights Hall of Fame. She previously was inducted into the HOF with the 1995 team and she was inducted individually in 2012.
At the conclusion of her four-year softball career at Siena Heights, Koppelman was the all-time leader in runs scored (119) for the Saints and was in the top 10 in SHU softball career stats in runs, stolen bases, triples and at-bats. She earned All-Conference honors twice during her career and was part of the 44-win Saints team in 1995.
That 1992 softball team is being inducted in the Hall of Fame along with four individuals.
All will be inducted on October 2, 2020, at the annual Hall of Fame Banquet as part of Homecoming Weekend at SHU.
At Whiteford, Koppelman was a three-sport athlete, earning All-State honors in softball and basketball. She was inducted into the Whiteford High School Athletic Hall of Fame soon after graduation.
