Whiteford chose to join the Michigan-Ohio Border Conference along with Ida, Blissfield, Dundee, Erie Mason, Northwood and Ottawa Hills for the 1973-74 school year, a year of change in Whiteford sports.

John Rice became the boys basketball coach and Joe Kinshaw was the first-year football coach. Mary Branstetter served her final season as girls varsity head coach in basketball while the sport of wrestling sent to wrestlers to the state meet.

Whiteford’s football team finally slipped below .500 for the first time in school history.
