Whiteford’s softball becomes dynasty with third title in four years in ’86-87

Whiteford’s softball team once again was the class of Class D.

For the third time in four years, the Bobcats finished as the state champions, this time with Jamie VanBrandt (above) in the circle. Leigh Ross was joined on the All-State squad by Jodi Kiefer, Rhonda Iott and VanBrandt as the Bobcats finished 26-6, shared the TCC title and beat Bay City All Saints 6-5 in the state finals.

Kiefer, Iott and Ross completed their softball careers by playing on three state championship teams.

It was a good sports year all-around for the Bobcats, who won a boys basketball league title and had one of the biggest wins in school history – knocking off the last unbeaten team in Class C, Morenci, who came into Whiteford Gymnasium with a 15-0 record and left 15-1.

Here’s the review of 1986-87.
