Whiteford boys tie for first in race, finish second in final TCC cross country standings

HUDSON – Whiteford’s boys cross country team had a great day Tuesday, tying league leader Erie Mason for first place in the TCC Championship meet and securing a second-place finish in the league’s final standings.

It’s the highest-ever finish for the Bobcat boys cross country team.

“We went from last place last year to earning second place outright and tying in the final event of the TCC this year,” Whiteford coach Jay Yockey said. “The boys ran a phenomenal race today, their best of the season.”

Luke Murphy finished fourth with a PR of 18:16. Keegan Masters also ran a PR (18:34) and finished seventh. Both runners earned first team all-conference honors.

Elliot Rodgers and Cole Courch earned second team all-conference honors while also running PRs. Ryan Oberle was honorable mention all-league.

“All of the guys ran great races,” Yockey said. “They left it all on the course today and fought for every place. I’m very proud of them. Cole (Crouch) really stepped up big and got himself in great positioning to help propel us to where our team goals were for today.”

Annie Gapp finished 12th in 23:32 to earn second team all-conference honors. Sarah Oberle ran a PR and finished 20th and Sidney Miller came in 23rd.

“The girls ran great races as well,” Yockey said.

The Bobcats run next on October 24 in Hillsdale for a pre-regional race.
