PETERSBURG – Devon Shaw’s touchdown run with 2:39 left lifted Whiteford to a come-from-behind, 34-29 victory at Summerfield Friday.
The Bobcats then kicked an onside kick, which was recovered by Jake Iott, then ran out the clock for the victory and a 4-2 regular season. The win most likely clinches a first round home playoff game for the Bobcats.
Shaw finished with 40 carries for 150 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Shea Ruddy ran for 143 yards on 15 attempts, including an 8-yard run on the games final play when the Bobcats needed a first down to run out the clock.
Ruddy completed 9 of 17 passes for 163 yards and two touchdowns to Jack Andrews.
Summerfield led 14-0 early on a 78 yard touchdown run by Jake LaRocca and an 89 yard touchdown catch by Gavin Feitz and went up 29-20 on the first play of the fourth quarter when Feitz caught a 46-yard touchdown from Devin Albain.
Whiteford controlled the clock for most of the rest of the fourth quarter. On Summerfield’s only other possession of the quarter they were forced to punt after three plays.
Iott, a freshman, led Whiteford with 7 tackles.
Albain and Feitz had interceptions for Summerfield. Albain threw for 216 yards and Fetiz had 173 yards receiving on 7 catches. Ethan Eyler had 19 tackles for the 1-5 Bulldogs.
