If ‘Pause’ lifts Dec. 8, basketball practice will begin Dec. 9

LANSING – Winter sports has gotten the go-ahead – sort of.

The Michigan High School Athletic Association announced today its return to play plan for fall and winter sports, which is contingent on the state health officials lifting the emergency order that has put a pause on school athletics until Dec. 8.

The plan was approved by the MHSAA Representative Council, of which Whiteford Athletic Director Jason Mensing is a member.

If lifted on that day, fall sports teams still in tournament play and winter sports teams may resume practice on December 9.

In the Tri-County Conference, that means Sand Creek and Summerfield football teams, both alive in the Division 8 football playoffs, will play in the regional final either Dec. 15 or Dec. 16.

The remaining football schedule would look like this:

Football: Regionals/8-Player Semis: Tuesday, Dec. 15 – 16

Semis/8-Player Finals: Dec. 21 – 22

State 11-Player Finals: Dec. 28 – 29 at Ford Field.
