Bobcats hold off Morenci as five players reach double figures in points

OTTAWA LAKE – Whiteford withstood several challenges from the Morenci Bulldogs Saturday afternoon and came away with the Tri-County Conference victory. 

The Bobcats jumped out to a big lead early and led 29-19 headed into halftime. Cole Giesige extended the lead to 36-23 early in the third quarter when Morenci’s Braylon Stover hit back-to-back 3-pointers to pull the Bulldogs with 36-29 and Carsyn Varga scored on a layup to make it 38-34. 

Morenci was within three points at 48-45 with 3:23 left but couldn’t get any closer.  

Luke Rasor scored 8 fourth quarter points and Giesige knocked down a big 3-pointer to keep the Bobcats in front. 

Five Whiteford players reached double figures for the first time this season. Giesige finished with 13, Isaiah Joerin scored 12, Shea Ruddy and Josh Hill each scored 11 and Rasor finished with 10. 

Breckin Alcock led Morneci with 17 points while Brian Bachelder finished with 12. 

The Bobcats improved to 5-5 on the season. Morenci is 1-9.
