OTTAWA LAKE — Whiteford had three chances to tie the game in the final seconds but couldn’t get one of them to fall in a 52-50 loss to state-ranked Summerfield Thursday.
The Bobcats defense held Summerfield to just six points in the fourth quarter and hit several big buckets to stay close, then pulled within one with inside 30 seconds to play. After Summerfield made a basket, the Bobcats called timeout with 10 seconds to play.
After in-bounding the ball, Summerfield fouled the Bobcats to prevent them from putting up a 3-pointer. After Luke Rasor made the first free throw, Whiteford called its final timeout. Coming out of the break, Rasor deliberately missed the second free throw and Whiteford grabbed the rebound and got three shots off but couldn’t get one to fall.
Shea Ruddy had a great game with 16 points, as did Cole Giesige. Rasor hit the big 3-pointer late in the game and had 8.
Whiteford next plays Monday in the Division 3 district against Madison.
