Ribbon cut on Whiteford’s new track – first since 1970s

OTTAWA LAKE — The long-awaited track on the Whiteford Agricultural Schools campus was celebrated Friday with hundreds of students of all ages taking a victory lap around the all-weather, 8-lane track.

“This has been a long time coming for the community and students, said Whiteford Supt. Val Orr.

The track was funded as part of a 2019 bond issue. It replaces a cinder track that Whiteford has utilized since the 1970s when it was built.

“It was awesome to see the whole school out for the ribbon cutting,” said Whiteford track coach Mike Hughes. “The excitement of having the kids running a lap on the new track was great.”

Whiteford will host its first track meet since 2008 on March 30 against Ida.
