Whiteford’s softball team split a doubleheader with Monroe Friday afternoon, carrying some momentum from a late rally into the first game into a second-game win.
The Bobcats lost the opener 14-9, but were down 14-2 going into the bottom of the sixth inning. Whiteford scored four in the sixth and three in the seventh before Trojans closed out the game. Aly VanBrandt, Ambrelle Billau and Anna VanBrandt had three hits apiece to lead a 15-hit Bobcat attack.
In the second game, Unity Nelson struck out 14 for Whiteford and allowed just three hits.
Shay Alexander had three hits and two RBI.
“These players don’t quit,” said Whiteford softball coach Matt VanBrandt. “We had a lot of positive energy at the end of that first game and it carried over into game two.”
