OTTAWA LAKE — It was a banner day for Whiteford’s track and field team Monday as the school’s record board – located just inside the doors at the high school – had to be updated.
Annabelle Gapp set a new Whiteford record in the 300 Hurdles – breaking her own mark – while the 4×400 Relay team of Paige Thomas, Madelyn Thomas, Aubrie Simmons and Gapp broke the school record as well.
Gapp placed fifth at the state meet in the hurdles in 49.21. The new 4×400 Relay record is 4:17.9.
Whiteford’s sixth-place finish as a team was the highest the Bobcat girls have finished at the state meet since 2014 when the Bobcats were fifth as a team.
Thomas became the first Whiteford athlete to place four times at the same state meet. In addition to helping the 4×400 relay team place third, Thomas was fourth in the 100 (13.10), fifth in the 200 (27.63) and third in the 400 (1:01.13). Thomas was eighth in the 100 as a sophomore at the state meet.
