Four Whiteford softball players were named First Team All-State today by the Michigan High School Softball Coaches Association.
Making the honor squad are Unity Nelson at pitcher, Berlynn Keller at second base, Aly VanBrandt at shortstop and Ambrelle Billau at third base.
The Bobcats finished the season 32-4, losing in the Division 4 quarterfinal.
All four underclassmen had tremendous seasons.
VanBrandt set Whiteford records for batting average in a season (.642), hits (77), runs scored (66), and stolen bases (40) and was the Bobcat leadoff hitter.
Billau hit .466 with 38 runs scored and 24 RBIs. Keller set a Whiteford season record for doubles with 15 while hitting .478, tying for team lead in home runs with two, and leading the team in RBIs with 50.
Nelson set a single season Whiteford record for strikeouts as a pitcher with 271 in just 120 innings. The freshman went 19-1. She also had a strong season at the plate, batting .435.
The Tri-County Conference had three other first team All-State players – Elle Price of Morenci in Division 4 and Lexi Holtz and Callie Sower of Madison in Division 3.
