Whiteford’s volleyball team made its season debut a little earlier than planned, going 0-3-1 on the day at the Adrian varsity volleyball tournament.
The key to the day was getting better, first-year Whiteford coach Janie Bunge said.
“We played some really good teams and definitely improved as the day went on,” Bunge said.
The Bobcats lost to Dearborn Divine Child 25-5 and 25-13 and Adrian, 25-12, 25-11, then split with Kalamazoo Loy Norrix 25-22, 21-25 in pool play. Whiteford lost to No. 1 seed Divine Child 25-13, 25-14 to close out its day.
Kenzie Gray had 12 kills and Allison Spradling had eight kills for the Bobcats. Jessica Ulery had four blocks while Aly VanBrandt had 12 digs and Madelyn Thomas nine.
Whiteford originally wasn’t scheduled to open the season until Aug. 30 at Blissfield but added this tournament late. Bunge said her goal as to get the Bobcats into as many tournaments as she can.
“The more we get to play, the better we will get,” she said.
