Whiteford Bobcats tie school scoring record in victory over D1 Loy Norrix

OTTAWA LAKE – Whiteford tied a school scoring record and beat a Division 1 team for the first time in school history Friday, holding off Kalamazoo Loy Norrix, 76-40.

Cole Geisige rushed for 210 yards and scored four touchdowns, Jake Iott scored two touchdowns and ran for 72 yards and Shea Ruddy threw for two touchdown passes. Drew Knaggs also scored twice. Whiteford had 501 yards of total offense.

Loy Norrix put up 492 yards of total offense. Quarterback Tyler Roberts threw for 423 yards and five touchdowns.

The Bobcats, however, overpowered the visiting Knights, cashing in on several short fields and striking fast several times. In one scenario through penalties and a sack, Loy Norrix faced a fourth-and-76 from inside its own 5-yard line, went for it and turned the ball over at the 3-yard line. Whiteford scored two plays later.

The start of the game was delayed for about an hour due to lightning that struck just before the Whiteford band started playing the National Anthem, sending both teams to shelter.

When the game did start, the Bobcats kicked an onside kick and Dylan Anderson recovered it. Giesige scored on Whiteford’s first offensive play, a 55-yard run. The Bobcats scored 30 points in the first quarter.

Rylan Joerin scored Whiteford’s final touchdown, which tied the school scoring record of 76 points set in 1968 against Summerfield.

The Bobcats improved to 6-1 on the season and will return to Tri-County Conference action next week when they host Summerfield.

Loy Norrix is 0-7 on the season.
