Masters qualifies for state meet as Bobcats finish ninth

DEXTER – Whiteford’s Keegan Masters qualified for the state cross country meet and the Bobcats finished seventh in the Division 3 Regional Saturday in Dexter.

Masters ran his race in 17:44.20 to snag a top 10 finish and a spot in the cross country state meet at Michigan International Speedway. Elliott Rodgers (18:41.3) placed 28th and Luke Murphy (18:42.4) was right behind him.

Cole Crouch (19:31.0) and Zach Kahn (19:46.1) both finished among the top 50. Ryan Oberle ran his race in 20:15 and Nick Oberle at 20:59.3.

In the girls race Whiteford’s Megan Butz finished 51st in 25:29.2 and Annabelle Gapp was 55th in 26:04.4.

“We ran really well,” said Whiteford coach Jay Yockey. “The kids showed their resilience this week with the course being moved on Wednesday. We knew going into the race we would have tor un the best race of our lives to get there as a team. The course was very wet and muddy and produced slower times.”
